There was a pretty crazy thunderstorm in the late afternoon. Like the crazy individual that I am, I went and chased the lightning. Unfortunatly by time I got into my car, the lightning and thunder was over. I did get some great stormy sunset photos. The rainbows were so vibrant, but very fleeting. The bottom right photo was the only somewhat good rainbow photo that I got.

Last night there was a huge halo around the moon, and today was just grey. It did give the mountains some interesting colors.

I love this paperweight my mom has. I have already photographed it a few times, but I'm in love with the photos that I took of it today. Each of the three, including the one I posted to my 365 project, are my favorite for different reasons. I really can't decide which one I like best.

Yes, today is my birthday. This was the only photo that I took today that I liked. I was quite excited to see the swirly wave pattern clouds. I've only seen picturse of them before and was quite happy to be able to take one of my own! I guess the sky even gave me a Birthday present! Today started out cloudy and by noon it was windy and clear. The clouds over the mountain were beautiful, but it was too cold and windy to stay out long. I also took a photo of the money tree in the kitchen that has been there for about 3 years now and growing strong.

Today I went to the water-saver garden again and hiked in one of the hills around Canyon Crest in Riverside. I either wasn't feeling it today or it was the grey clouds that were around all day, but these were the only shots worth keeping today. I know you can't have a steller day everyday, but after so many days in a row you, get used to it.

I was really happy with this photo that I took yesterday, so it got to go on my 365 project for today.

Feb. 17, 2010 Random Palm Springs Adventure

On the 365project, this week's theme is "Sign of the Times" where a sign is the main subject of the photo. Off we went to Palm Springs to find some cool signs.... It's not like it used to be there, it's too built up and not very retro-looking any more. We ended up driving through Palm Springs to Cathedral City then back through Cabazon (saw the dinos!) and came back home. These are a few of my favorite photos that I took along the way.

It's a pretty random selection since we did stop at quite a few random places to take photos... the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, Ace Hotel, the Palm Springs Air Museum, windmills along the 10 freeway and the Cabazon Dinosaurs. Someday I want to actually stay for awhile at a few of these places rather than jumping out of the car, snapping some photos then driving off!

Feb. 16, 2010 Right in the Backyard

I wasn't too adventurous today, I took photos in my backyard and at the Water-saver garden. Since last June, I have taken photos at the Water-saver garden every month. It's really cool to see the plant life change there over the months. Everytime I go there a new plant or flower is blooming. Today was different than usual since the little fountain was running. I worked quite a bit at getting a water shot. After about 100 photos of the water, I think I came up with a good understanding of how to take water motion shots. The one here is the best of what I took. I still need to work on it a little (or a lot).

The yellow flowers were also at the Water-saver garden. These are new growth at the garden, I haven't seen them there before. They were quite small and very fuzzy, very cute little flowers. The top right photo was from my backyard. After all the rain there is actually grass back there. I'm quite pleased with this photo, I really like the perspective of it. If you look close, there is even little sun rays!

The photo that I did post today for my 365 project is here. All this wandering in the backyard and garden was me really avoiding filing my taxes. I suppose now is the time to get on that after quite a bit of procrastination.

Feb. 15, 2010 Hiking in the Hills Again

I went hiking again with my mom. She got me a pair of hiking shoes for Christmas, and I'm feeling a little better today so I decided it was time to go try them out. Today was such a beautiful day, I took some amazing photos with all the blue skies and new green grass everywhere. We went to this little hill next to the elementry school that I went to for Kindergarden through 2nd grade. I found an interesting array of little objects while on the hill besides rocks and wild flowers like this cute little Valentine's giraffe.

Aside from taking the obligatory couple photo for Valentine's day, we also had alot of fun jumping off of things and catching some air. This is the first time that I've really tried to catch action shots. I'm so glad to have a boyfriend that will be willing to do crazy things for me to get a great photo.

The bottom photo is the photo that I did post today. I thought it would be cool to show what the photo looked like "pre-edit." I took this photo while hiking on one of the many hills that surrounds Moreno Valley. When I first saw this rock I had wondered if someone had actually started to carve a head out of it. I love finding stuff like this. As you can see it wasn't really that hard to add a few features and some shading to make the full human face transformation complete.

Today was very hard to pick a photo, there is so much beauty at the Arboretum. Even to put up photos on this blog I'm still leaving out at least ten other great photos, not to mention the Fantasy Island house or the peacocks! Hello there! I have started this blog to showcase the rejects from my 365 project that you can find here.

After doing my project now for 242 days I have found that only picking one photo to show to the world is a little restricting. I love the concecpt of this website and would encourage everyone to do a 365 photo project, sign up today, do it now!!
